Curriculum programs

eKindy

eKindy is a comprehensive ‘at home’ kindergarten program for children in the year before Prep.  The program is supported by a qualified early childhood teacher based at Mount Isa School of the Air and covers 15 hours of kindergarten for 40 weeks each year (school terms only).  The program aligns with the early years learning framework and the Queensland kindergarten learning guideline.

Eligible families pay no fees for eKindy. The eKindy program is currently managed by the Brisbane School of Distance Education.  For more information about eKindy, visit the Brisbane School of Distance Education website.

Primary - Prep to year 6

From 2015 the primary curriculum will cover prep to year 6. We implement the Education Queensland - C2C (curriculum to the classroom) in a digital and paper format created for distance education in Queensland. This is aligned to the National Curriculum. It consists of five week units of work for maths and English, and units of varied length for science, history/studies of society and the environment (SOSE), and Connected Learning Curriculum units covering the arts, technology and health/physical education. Units comprise of daily lessons which may have send-in sheets or build up to an assessment task. Daily class timetables identify due dates for items to be returned to the school either digitally or via mailbags.

It is compulsory for students in years 6 and 7 to participate in a Language Other Than English (LOTE), which is taught by teachers from Cairns School of Distance Education.

On-air lessons supplement the work completed in the home environment and teach the necessary knowledge, skills and processes that are relevant to the lessons and curriculum intent. On air lessons may cover unit work, build upon or review unit concepts or broaden student knowledge and ability.

Secondary - Year 7 to Year 10

From 2015, the secondary curriculum has been offered to students in years 7 to 10. A range of subjects are offered through an alliance with the Longreach School of Distance Education and Charleville School of Distance Education

Students must study a minimum of five subjects with the option of a sixth subject. The four core subjects are English, maths, science and SOSE/history, with students advised of other current subject offerings on enrolment.

Secondary students are also invited to attend two Western Alliance multischools in Longreach and a Western Alliance camp.
