Year 4 and 5 Camp – Magnetic Island
In Term Two in the week following Home Tutor Week, the Year 4 and 5 students attend a six day camp with their teachers at Magnetic Island. Students travel by bus to Townsville and head across to Magnetic Island on the ferry.
Year 4 students have the opportunity to play on the beach, go swimming, build sandcastles and play games in the sand. Hiking to the top of Hawkins Point is an adventure, but once at the top, everyone gets to enjoy a beautiful view of Magnetic Island and Townsville.
Year 5 students are lucky to experience many new adventures on camp including abseiling down rock faces and kayaking across the Coral Sea. The camp can include excursions to destinations in and around Townsville such as the Billabong Sanctuary where the students are able to get up close and personal with the wildlife.
Year 6 camp
In Term Three, Year 6 students fly to Canberra with their teachers on the annual 6 day school camp. The camp focus is to immerse the students in studies related to Civics and Citizenship, with the overall aim of developing student knowledge of Australia's history, heritage and democracy – and to give them the opportunity to spend a whole week in each other's company! Students travel to various attractions such as New Parliament House, the Australian War Memorial, Questacon and Government House.
Students are kept active through activities like the serene bike ride around the lake, participating in Questacon challenges including the GIANT drop and the awesome indoor rock-climbing. A visit to the National Geoscience Centre is also on the cards. The trip to the snow is always a highlight, even with bitterly cold temperatures dropping into the negatives.
